would a tall block fit? ???

Should fit. Isn't a tall block the one fitted to the late mk3 golfs?

The tall block out of the mk3 won't fit without mods.

To bad for that. I should have figured though. One of my mates has an audi 80 that he is having a 2.0 16v from a 97 golf put into to. What a pain in the Arse they are going through with it just to get it all in there.

Here is a couple of pics of his Car. It is an Audi 80 4 door on a C reg. He has had it for over 10 years now and it is in excellent shape. The only downfall is the old engine had well over 200,000 on it and it finally let go last summer. He was going to have another 1.8 put in and after taliking to those doing the work he decided on a 2.0 liter 16v engine through the Audi's auto box. Suppose to be done in a couple More weeks.

Wow that fills the engine bay as well as the old 2.2, 5 cylinder lump I used to have in my Audi coupe GT (same front end).
Be interesting to hear how your mate finds it with the new engine.........got to be a serious improvement on a 1.8, but I wonder how it would have compared with a 2.2.....that was a quick car.

Going to be interesting to see it when it is done. I can't believe the amount of work that has gone into it. They got the engine in and discovered that the bonnet wouldn't close. Whoops. lol. After that they milled spacers to lower the crossmember and built a new front mount to drop the engine and trans lower in the chassis. I think all it really lacks is little things like the throttle cable, kickdown cable, etc. It now has a custom built 4 branch on it going into a custom stainless exhaust. I don't think they know what they are doing with the induction yet as it comes out about 6 inches from the core support. lol. Hopefully he will have it back in a couple weeks.
