how fast the beast suposed to go.
« on: 07 September 2006, 21:38 »
Hi there everybody. Now then, just how fast is the beast suposed to go? And more to the point when does the power/acceleration kick in? My motor goes pretty quick when accelerating from 1st and then when in the middle revs in 2nd goes like stars wars, if you get my drift. I mean its exciting!!! And also this happens in 3rd. Im not a complete gti buff so maybe im missing the geek stuff. ( no offence you geek guys but you know your bizz) Big question ........ what should a 1997 2.0 8v move like???? Have pity on me and speak from the heart.

Mk3 8v gti's don't really have much power (115bhp) but they make up for it in torque (122lb/ft) that's why 0-60 is about 10seconds but when there moving they ain't that slow.... they do start to liven up around 2500rpm and i agree 2nd and 3rd are great..I can leave mine in 5th anything above about 20mph

I must admit i do the 5th thing just to take the piss !! .

The thing is the 8v is never going to be the quickest car , but it certainly leaves me with a smile on my face , and as for 16v's being great after 4.5k revs , i really dont want to drive like that anyway.

I,m going to try the 5th caper next time I,m out an about. Its new to me that so I,ll probaly end up with someone rammed up my arse!!! Actually it may not be a bad thing cos I,ll get a new bumper as mine is a bit tatty . But, due to this top forum I,ve found out how to replenish it to its former glories.
