GTI 1.8 20v Turbo
« on: 06 September 2006, 19:22 »
Hey Ppl,

I have a few questions regarding this model, for anyone who owns one or has knowledge of it -

- Has there been any problems with the turbo... ?
- What would be the best way to run this car.. i dont want to go driving it around (long and short journeys) an then the turbo burns out etc..  :undecided:
- How much will the turbo take before it blows ?
- If i fitted a intercooler or/and a turbo timer will this help ?

Any answers will be greatfully appriciated

Regards,
Ryan

I think the engines are pretty strong and well proven, as they are fitted to alot of vehicles i.e VW / Audi / Seat and Skoda.

You can get lots of power by re-mapping and I would guess that it wont have a detrimental effect on the engine if you stick to around the 225bhp mark (as some of the Audi TT's run this much as standard)

All the Turbo models have an intercooler. Mine is just behind the lower drivers side fog light. I know that some people fit a larger centre one when they up the power.

If you run them on a quality spec oil like castol edge, keep it toped up and always allow it to warm up slowly you shouldnt have to many problems

Always let the engine idle for a minute or two after a drive to allow the turbo to 'settle'.
