Anyone know how to PROMOTE rust?
« on: 06 September 2006, 12:41 »
Had an idea for a set of rims for my valver.  Idea worked in my head, and worked in photoshop.  Only thing is i need rust (or rust effect paint).  Any ways of getting metal to rust quickly and then coating it or any rust effect paints out there?

Strip to bare metal and cover in salt/water solution.

Might be better finding a look alike paint though. Rusted wheels cant be very safe!

i was only thinking superficial rust.  paint might be better due to the fact that its more easily reversable.  can you buy rust effect paint or am i going to have to bust out an airbrush :/ ?

When ya say rims do you mean Steel?

Coz alloys wont rust!

And for steels to go rusty you will have to remove all the paint!

Wanting BBS splits.  Figured if i can get some sh*t banged up ones then theyre going to be in need of a refurb anyway, if what I want to do looks pants i can just get them refurbed then.  Gives me something to waste my boring yorkshire weekends on anyway

Quick pic of what i'm wanting it to look like (couldnt be bothered spending ages in photoshop, work might slap me )

Looks like air-brush-oclock to me , unless you fancy the degrading aluminium looks all white n powdery , if your going for rust for the wheels it might fit what you have planned for the entire car

Sod it, I'll just get some good quality copper coloured paint as a base colour then mess around a bit.  To be honest, i dont think the wheels will even suit the car, but i think they'll look cool and thats all that matters   Plus anything would look better than the hideous things it has on at the mo.  Now just need to save up some dollah
