Not sure if this is common knowledge...I never heard of before anyway...

Put car into body repair shop yesterday - owner gave me the following tip on how to restore faded plastic bumpers, etc.,;

Use a small blow torch, quickly sweeping it over the plastic area (I suppose gently heating rather than setting it on fire...). It has the effect of restoring to 'as-new' black finish.

no joke - I believe this guy and will try it out...sick of buying useless sprays etc..they only last a few days..week at most..depending on weather.

Will let you know how I get on..hopefully car wont end up as a ball of fire.. :evil:

fook that your more likely to melt them!... get a gallon of cheap £2.99 engine oil, and a rag, dob some on the rag and rub on your faded bumpers.... job done... will last for weeks but if you have real heavy rain they can go cloudy/milky... but is good stuff and restores instantly... do that a few times in the dry, let it soak in the back to black it or some auto glym silicone bumper gel and theyll stay like it for ages....

This is what i did, wash the car properly, let it fully dry... mask up the surrounding metal around the plastics, and laquer them.... it works! and look fantastic..! only downside is that when the car get dirty the dirt shows up alot more, but thats just another excuse to wash her more times!  :wink:

yeah thats another down side to the oily bit... if you dont wipe the excess off and leave it a bit thick yeah it looks nice and glossy but you can see all the dust/grit stick to it......

thats why oiled air filters (k&n etc aint all there hyped up to be....)

but if you wipe it off after its done its blacking then silicone spray it etc it lasts for weeks... but any dub addict will wash there car regualr anyways....

kiwi scuff guard. lasts for months and is easy to apply but needs a bit of work buffing it up.   :wink:
