Car is back...
« on: 04 September 2006, 19:00 »
And driving better than ever. Drove it 16 miles to work in rush hour traffic this morning - and back tonight. But why do I feel nervous sitting in traffic? Its better than its ever been but I feel slightly scared of it now. Why? Is that normal?

as soon as u drive it for a week or so you will trust it again.

there is nothing worse than driving a car in traffic that you think is going to die at any moment, road rage becomes even worse somehow! shouting at traffic lights etc! or at least I do anyway!

It's natural to feel slightly nervous when driving a car after it has had a lot of major engine work on it, and after it has been running like a bag of nails. If it is better now, then i wouldn't worry about it, just drive it gently over the next few weeks

If the engine has been rebuilt then has it been/ or are you running it in over the next 1500miles or so?

yes been told to run it in for 1000 miles then get oil changed. Been told my fuel pump is on its way out so just looking into some prices in advance so I know if I'm being ripped off when I eventually get that done. How can you tell when it needs doing?

It gets really noisy, blows fuses and stops working

Yay for getting the car back

I would have the oil changed after like 20 miles. when the head is off loads of little bits of sh!t drop into the bores. all that is being passed around the engine. as the rings are beding into the honing marks it'll scrub off tiny bits of metal too. best to flush it out now imo.

i wouldn't  change it that soon, i would do it around 500 miles, as it should be running on really crappy oil at the moment, then a complete change at 500 both oil and filter (genuine vag filter etc) then run it for the other half of the thousand then put in the oil that you really want it to run on regularily.
