« on: 04 September 2006, 14:14 »
Hi bought a MK3 GTI which had lots of probs but eventually getting there!! Anybody know why my rev counter apears to be only reading about half of what it is actually doing?
Also my rear wiper doesn't work for some reason any quick fixes? How easy is to change the bulbs behind the heater controll panel?
THink that may be it for now! gonna have a look at the rough idling questions as I have that problem too!!! My car is an oddball too wierd spec!
Cheers for any help!

Hi mate, loads of old vw's suffer from the back wiper not working quite as it should, but tbh in my experiance that tends to be the mk2's. I would suggest that it is probably the stalk on the steering column that has gone t*ts up, rather than the motor itself! Changing the bulbs behind the heater control is simple, but make sure you read a Haynes or Bently manual first, so you know what you are snapping off, unscrewing, taking out etc, so you don't break anything. I got a bulb from VW for 39p inc V.A.T (at last a dealer selling something at a reasonable price), Then got given a load by a mate that works in a garage! bah!

Hope this helps

one of my old golf's, an mk3 had a rear wiper problem. I changed the motor, the relay, the stalk then I looked at the fuse, doh.

then I took it off altogether.

didn't think mk2 brakes on a mk3 gti would fit????? mk3's should be all 5 stud and 280mm front disc's on the early one's where as mk2 had 4 stud and 256mm...... :undecided:

No mate, the early MK3's had the 4 stud hubs with smaller discs. Then from 95 on they all got the same setup as the vr6, as in bigger 280mm disks with 5 stud hubs. Also at the same time they all got the 16v beesting roof mounted arial and updated oval side repeters.  Although, you will find some on the changover year with some and not all the upgrades/changes!!!!!!
