Hi just joined!! need help with orange light on dashboard!!

Hello to you all
I would be grateful if anyone could help me!!
I have a golf 1.8gti,51 plate 2002 which i have had for about 2months, its got 29k a orange light stays on on the dashboard, i have looked in my manual and it says its the exhaust emissions!!!
not sure what this means, and will it cost me loads,
can anyone shed any light on this for me

Emmissions could be several things like the lambda sensor or even as bad as the CAT defunct!
You need to get it checked with a fault finder.

Or go look in the Mk4 section to see if there is anything similar.
