Remapping? Tuning? Superchip?
« on: 02 September 2006, 20:06 »
Had a little look through the forum and picking up the above terminologies.  To be honest I am confused

As a newbie to modding the whole experience is a little confusing but am learning  :nerd:

I have a mk 3 (d'oh pretty obvious as in the mk 3 thread!) 2.0 8v (98).  Are there any gains by modding the ECU?  What mods could I do to the ECU and what gains could I expect?

Would set you back about 400 notes and gains are of about 20 bhp. AMD, custom code etc would take care of it. Done it on my TDI and the difference is impressive!

dont bother chiping your 8v as this makes hardly any differance in power it may make it a bit smoother but its not worth the money ,the reason sony has had results with his  tdi  is because his is a turbo powered car and very easy to get more power on these cars.
sorry sony.

i have mk3 8v if you want it to run better try putting milltek cat back on to replace standard system this makes huge difference, plus k&n better airflow, power boost valve - better throttle response and then i had superchip. by adding superchip to this combo it helps run it smoothly, would i buy one on there own, no, user chipping to comlement or you could be dissapointed!!!

power boost valve replaces the standard fuel pressure regulator and will help make your throttle more responsive when you stamp your foot!!!
