Prices

Ok - So I'm looking to net myself a Mk3 GTI 16v. My maxium I can afford to spend is £2200. I've been checking the book prices and it seems I should be able to get something in good condition without ott mileage. The reality it seems is different? If car is paticuarly low mileage and special I can see why, but a lot of them seem well over priced and nudging 130k mileage. The mileage is understandable, but not the prices. I had a mk1 around 10 years ago and this my first step into vw ownership since. I've been looking at a 16v Anniversary on 100k, books says 2k for a good one on 80k.  However, im sure the owner has a bigger price in mind. Mind you even boggo 16vs can be 3k, again way off book price.

I'm interested in what everyone thinks as current owners. Is it overpricing or can it be justified?

Depends- I mean if it's been owned by an enthusiast on one of the vag forums it will generally have been well cared for- so that can justify the price to a certain extent.. Sold my mk3 on one of the forums to another vag nut and I did sell it for far more than what is what worth. But it was worth that money to me as I knew it was sound mechanically and bodywork wise. I'd always go for a car from someone off a forum rather than an unloved ebay motor!

Ebay - The place where some think there stuff is worth a fortune.

To be fair ive got my cougar on there at the moment. However, I have done my research and priced it keenly.

Agreed on the forums though, I have been keeping my eye out.
