project track sl4g
« on: 01 September 2006, 20:30 »
well heres the pics but it already looks different!, the interior is now gone other than the dask and front seats which tomorrow will be replaced with 2 black leather recaros (from a scirocco) and the rear is going to be borded out over the weekend with the competition sub and amp installed!,
the car is a 1.8 driver which is now sat on big fat scirocco Gt carbs (courtesy of stokevwspares) and the bloody thing flies! it now dikks vickis gti!
its taxed until 02/07 (did it today for 6 months) and m.o.t'd untill december 19th, also tomorrow the bottom of the car and skirts are going black and the underneath is going to be tetrosol waxoiled to keep it protected, theres a few odd rust patches and a slight banging coming from the front wheel when slowing down in gear (stripping tomorrow to find fault) and also its staying on the steelies sprayed matt black and lowering on just springs 45mm all round!, if i get round to it over the weekend il be scrapyard hunting for a cheap ass big bore back box and then the car will be sound! also if its legal to do so the bumpers are either coming off altogether or im having the usual gti big bumpers for it!

Odd, I thought a 'track sl4g' would be something that's being built up and stripped down for driving around a track, rather than something getting a 'competition sub and amp'.

doesnt really matter to be honest as the subs going to be built into the spare wheel well so it can be very quickly removed on track days and for how much ive already stripped the car i cant see how 1 sub and amp will add much weight!, basically i love my bass and not going to settle untill i get em in!!
whats the weight of a sub and amp about 3kg? nothing really as the back seat weighs more than that and the roof lining probally did too!

My bass amp weighs 10kg
My sub and fg box weighs a hell of a lot more
I can't see how an amp and sub that weighs 3kg altogether can give you much bass anyway

Get some pics up once you've done the paint etc and the bumpers

you havent actually stripped it that much u have just removed the rear seats and carpet and door trims. get the dash out and only have one front seat. rip all the sound deadening out to we wanna see your fire wall in its bare metal glory. i would be very surpeised if u have removed enough weight to put a sub n amp in and it not make much difference.

car is nearly all primered up now the top is in good condition so im just doing upto the line on the door i think the bottom of the car is going yellow but not sure yet just want a colour that stands out theres just a few bits left including the rust on the bottom of the boot which will go back the original colour,

So got your license back yet? Still getting your wife and kids into death traps that you are driving?

Oh and a sub and amp will be around 20kg not 3. Basically what you have taken out, will be cancelled out by what you are putting in.

To use the car on the track you'll need something to replace the door cards.  They won't allow a car on the track with nothing covering the door internals for fear of it being rolled and someone having their arm ripped off.
