Urgent: New Engine Help needed
« on: 31 August 2006, 18:55 »
Well, my mate has jsut phoned me to say after all the work we have commited to my car, head skimmed, rubbed down new gasket on there and inlet and manifold.. new cambelt fan belt new sparks, new everything surrounding the head and making it running, and lo and behold its still kicking out white smoke like an absiolute b!tch.. the cosmetic is absolut perfect so i really dont want to let it go as i have spent a lot on restoring it to its standard look.

Now, i need an original 1.3 engne to go back into it, my mate said it could be anything the rings whatever, as its burning fuel on idle..

would a new carb be a good start to see if it fixes it? if its jsut the carb gone, but then the worry of the rings, pistons, the whole score down inside..

would a new engine forma breakers be an idea? i mean, you dont know whats wrong with that one then, do you..

..help

May be better off posting this in the garage section for better results.

I'd say a new engine maybe, and swap parts over until you find out what makes the smoke..

if you had the head off and it skimmed it would of made sense to pop the pistons out and replace the rings really if it was smoking a bit. if it's not the rings I would put it down to the valve stem seals.

i didnt do the work, a mate of mate did it, all he did was the gaskets nothjing else, it wasnt smoking before due to how the gasket was so bad.. we could hardly run it!

white smoke is normally from head gasket problems. you/he did torque the head bolts down properly didn't you? i'd whip the head off again and see if you can spot the problem.

yep, all present and correct, been told that oubviously if you open it up, check it, do soemthing and put it together again and then its the next thing down the line, youll be there for forever and a day and spending your bank account+1.. where you could drop a new engine in at home on the drive..

as i say, what do you guys say of a volks-only speciailist breaker for anew engine, its Volksmania in Old Sodbury, down bristol bath way by the way
