Cruise Control Retrofit
« on: 30 August 2006, 22:11 »
Hi there,

Been away from Golfs now for 2 years since I sold my Mk 3 16v. Been driving a Mini Cooper since. Anyway back to topic looking to get a Mk 5 GTI as my next opt out option instead of company car. As I'll probably buy used for 16-17K I don't really get much choice in options, even though there is one option I have promised myself which is cruise. Can this be retofitted as it seem quite difficult to get one with as an option. I know it is possible with Mk 4s and I know if you fit the indicator stalks etc it will have to be coded but has anyone had it done and if so how much?

While on the topic of retrfiting options what else has anyone had retroftitted and what was the cost?

Other options I'd like are the 18" monzas (easliy sorted) and MFSW.

Cheers,

Rob

Doc's the expert here, and hopefully he'll confirm this, but AFAIK, the cruise control can be retrofitted as it's basically just a stalk that plugs into the ECU...

I'll answer my own question here; popped into the dealers today to take a look around and get a PCP quote and found out that they do a retrofit cruise at £150 inc vat and fitting (this was at Cardiff Volkswagen, not sure if its the same price at all dealers). Therefore its cheaper to get it retrofitted than pay for it as an option at £270 when the car is new!!

crazy VW pricing strikes again!!! You'd think it would be cheaper to fit it when the car is in pieces

Yup it makes no sence!

You can buy the bits for £50 ish then fit 'em but you will still need VW to initialise the cruise which is an hours labour.

ie the £150 is worth every penny!
