help help and erm, help
« on: 30 August 2006, 12:34 »
Ok so the rear washer jet doesnt work on my golf, got the haynes manual posted to me this morning so i took the bugger off, took the whole thing out. Only problem is i can dissasemble it anyfurther than it already is as shown below.

I wonder if it is possible to pull this grey part off to see closer if there is a blockage as water reaches the pipe at the back as shown below:

Only problem is i put a pin in to see if it was at the top and now it's stuck so i need to take it apart further to get the lil bugger out. If not do you think i'd need a new unit as i dont get any water at all.

you cant really strip it any more than that easily, its assembled with tamperproof bolts & rivets etc.  Does the pump actually work, i.e now that the motor is of does water come out of the tube on the tailgate?

water will come out of the pipe that attaches onto that grey part, so the pump and everything else seems to work fine. There must be an internal blockage somewhere as the lady owner before me put way too much fairy liquid and i'm worried that it might have gunged up. Also any ideas for getting the pin out? Or even that grey part, obviously no point unless i can dis assemble it further.

An air hose maybe? to unblock.

As for pin, tut tut, ya shouldnt go sticking things where they dont belong! LOL!!
sorry, couldnt resist. Have ya tried some fine nosed pliers? or tweezers maybe?

Missed the bit about the pin
Try holding a speaker magnet to the end, it might be strong enough to pull the pin out!

well it's one of those pins that have got that annoying head on , so i think i'll try using a small drill bit and make a small hole and try and pull it out like that, as for the air hose i dont have one, suppose i could always go to the local shopping centre and use their air pump for the tyres. If that is no success will i need a new unit? If so how much are they or would it jsut be better not to bother

I'd go for a second hand unit, price of a new one will probably give you a heart attack

well i finally got the lil bugger out, had to saw a tiny piece off the plastic to get beneath the head but it all fits back now, blew through the pipe and it's getting air as far as i can tell and i went as far as i could taking it all apart. Put it all back in and tried it but to no luck nothing happened

Open the boot again and find out i'm getting a little leak obviously because there's a blockage somewhere.

Now can anyone give me a rough estimate on a 2nd hand unit, i've rang around local dealers but no-one has one. 2nd option is to remove the whole lot and have no back wiper and have it filled in. Which do you think is the better option? Can you live without a rear window wiper?

At least i've learnt not to stick pins where they dont belong

right, peel back the boot carpet/card on the driver side, you'll see the washer hose where it runs up to the tailgate.  You'll probably find its come undone there :)

no it hasnt, thats how i got the unit out, i took the whole of the rear unit out, pulled that hose out and water comes out up to there fine, that's why i took the unit off to see of there was a blockage, but as i cant dismantle the whole thing i cant figure out wehre it is. i've blew air through and tiny bits get through, if you keep the jet on long enough you get a tiny river but it's not got the power to get up the window screen. So it's either a 2nd hand unit or just get rid of the whole thing, which wouldnt be too bad because it's a small hole but i'm not sure what to do because i'm having the drivers door sprayed so why he's doing that maybe have the hole taken car of as well?? dunno
