b@stard immobiliser!

[workhorse '90 8v]

when i bought this golf the owner said that the alarm/immobiliser had been disconnected..

I wasn't bothered, we live in a very low crime area..

Anyway, now the damn thing keeps immobilising the car with no obvious way of de-immobilising it!

Hence my car is now sitting there and i havn't a clue what to do?

there is no power to the starter motor?

i found a dodgy earth from the immobiliser, connected it, the car ran again until the next day!

i disconnected the earth and the car started!!?

now the starter motor wont turn whether the earth is connected or not?

(it isn't a dodgy starter motor, as i have a spare)

what can i do? only thing i can think of is take the entire alarm/immobiliser system out!   a long job!?

any ideas ?

i think u triggerd the immobilizer by earthing it
do you have a immobilizer key? press the button on the keypad with the ignition on. worth a try

no key !!

there is a key slot on the unit in the engine bay ?

the whole thing has dodgy wiring, i'm not looking forward to trying to sort it out!

maybe someone out there knows a simple bypass method???

Best thing to do is take the alarm boxes etc out of the car before you bypass the immobalizer. Less complicated that way

When I bought my GTI last fall it had an old VW full closure alarm installes. 2 days later ity armed and I didn't have an alarm fob or anything for it. I wound up carefully going through and removing every stich of the old alarm and going back to original before installing the new alarm. Sounds like a pain in the a55 but it works out better in the long run. My old immobiliser part of the alarm had 2 parts to it. One part went to the ignition side and the other to the cranking side. If it is dodgy one side or the other may work as it pleases. They are actually cut into the wires and you will have to follow the wiring from the immobiliser key panel to the control box. From there find where it splices into the vehicle wiring and join the original wires back together. It is better to solder and shrinkwrap these but crimp connector and tape should also work fine. Hope this helps.

that is the plan now, to follow every wire and reconnect the originals.

best get crank up the soldering iron then!  I'm missing my golf,  got a k&n induction for xmas from the girly (aint she sweet!) - have hardly used it yet!

Thats cool. I didn't get anything car related for Christmas so I am going to buy myself some wheels. lol. Hope you get it sorted soon. I'm pretty sure it is a dodgy immob causing the problem.

not sure it was the prob tho..

i'll get a starter switch asap, and see where it goes from there..

I saw that. I was sure it would wind up being the immob but it sounds like you have it tracked down to the switch or coil. I'd go with the switch I think. Coil doesn't affect cranking just sparking. Hopefully that will get it. I know what you mean about learning. I am always learning something new it seems.

When I got my golf it was fitted with a non standard immobiliser, which worked fine to begin with. Then one day it stopped working.

In the end I thought 'sod it' and called out a local alarm co to rip it out. It took the guy literally two minutes to wire round it and take it out. sorted.
