What is this pipe?
« on: 24 August 2006, 20:49 »
Hi all,

Just bought my 8v GTi and this pipe is split at top. It also looks to be leaking from tround he bottom end. Question is what does it do and how do I remove the bottom end - it isn't obvious to me? Are replacements available from most motor factors?

Thanks for any help guys/galls!

Yours, Luke the newbie.

it's the crankcase breather pipe i think. the bottom undoes by pulling the metal circlip ring type thing upwards ,then the pipe should pull off.

the top where it connects is undone by taking out the 2 screws, prising off the black square thing ( it does come off but is a bit of a struggle) and the pipe should just pull off.

you cant get them from motor factors and are a VW only part ......i think.

if you get ot off without it falling apart , give it a good clean out with a bit of rag on a wire coathanger.

Hi Lukem,

The part number you need for that pipe, is 037 103 213 B called a B tube and sadly it's gonna cost you £'s from the dealer. Had to replace mine a few months ago, went to dealer for the part and it's £31.99+VAT    As monkeyalan said it's released via the circlip at the bottom of the block, and the top part connects to the other tube (which goes into the black block on top of the rocker cover) via a clip or jubliee clip. Two minute job to replace :)
