Probable, practical or not??
« on: 24 August 2006, 16:04 »
Got my new golf yesterday and gave it a good wash today. Now there are some problems with it: Scratch in drivers door and minor scratches all round on the doors from fat people getting out of cars. Now you know the plastic things that go down the side of the door, on one side it is bent and i was wondering if it would be practical to have them taken off, filled with metal and smoothed then sprayed along with the doors to get rid of the scratches. Can anyone maybe give a rough price guide to this?

Also the clutch is very heavy and the accelerator doesnt do anything until the pedal is about halfway down, anyway of solving both these problems?

try t-cut before ya have the side resprayed, takes out light scratches

as for the clutch/throttle, sounds like the cables might be fooked in the engine bay somewhere, or not routed properly, so check them out

Not got a golf yet! did have a 1.6 driver plan to have another project car soon ;)

thanks, i tried the t cut but it's scratched through the paint. Going to have the sills resprayed as there falking and also the drivers door to cover the scratch plus theres a bit of rust on the bottom. I'm going to have my dad's friend look at the cables when he changes the cambelt. Hopefully that will be all. Just need to find some descent alloys from somewhere at a reasonable price but i'm not too sure what to go for, i'd like some deep dish but i hanvt seen any mk3's with deep dishes on.

hi, not been here for a while but thought I'd let you know
from the day i got my Mk3 the clutch was heavy then after about a year the clutch started to make strange noises in reverse, i left it and the every now and again the clutch cable would make a twang sort of noise (this i found out was the cable snapping inside)
then the clutch started to slip and that was it into my trusty mechanic my baby went
the result was a new clutch and cable
on the clutch there are small blades, these are depressed by the thrust bearing, several of these had snapped and were laying in the bottom of the bell housing (ahhhh!!!!)
and the clutch cable was in a sorry state too it was down to the last 5 strands of cable
now it runs like a dream and acceleration is fantastic
in the same sitting i had a new abs sensor fitted to the rear wheel and an mot (all this came to £450 nicker) but they let me off 50quid cos i know em and have been going to them for 15 years lol
cheers layden car center stevenage for giving me back my baby and improved at that
so get your cable checked first if there are any strands snapped then that can make your clutch feel heavy :)

thanks for that, and wow!!! what are those wheels called, sex on wheels if i ever saw it.

Good point about the clutch, i'm going to have it looked at when it goes in for a new cambelt change and that's only costing me £90  :smug:

I've also found a place that sell refurbished alloy wheels so i'm going there tomorrow to have a look around.
