fuel gauge
« on: 23 August 2006, 21:49 »
the fuel gauge on my 1.6 mk3 1997 seems to have a mind of its own - sometimes when I start the car it is higher than when I stopped the car - then it will go back to normal after a while, is there anything that could be checked/replaced?

depends by how much it moves. the angle of the car will move the gauge as the float will be higher or lower. it will go back to normal on the flat. it shouldn't move more than maybe an 8th of a tank on a mk3 tho'.
my old rover 216 used to move upto 1/3rd of a  tank.

it tends to stay at one position for a few hours or until I stop and start the car again and then it will move to a different position, probably about 1/6 tank.
