idle problem (mk3 golf)
« on: 23 August 2006, 17:04 »
My mk3 golf is doing something rather strange.

turn the key she fires up first time always.
rev it up and it comes back and sits at around 800 rpm.

but the problem is if u just tap the throtle say to about 1500rpm then it stalls.

it does this when driving too. like when clutch down and breaking for lights, or even changing gear. some times it just dies.

i tried turning the idle up to about 1000 maybe 1100 and this if anything made it worse.

i just tried spraying some carb cleaner in it and generally cleaned it up, but still the same.

i unplugged what i think is the idle speed control valve and then started the car. the revs climb and drop quite low but the car keeps running.

any ideas of stuff i could try?

or is it a case of getting it down a garage and asking them to look at it.
i was thinking maybe the mixture needs adjusting or something like that. and i cant do anything like that.
