the owners manual says

theses consumption figures were determined in accordance with recommendation A 70 of the EEC.

in order to obtain ture to life figures the tests were carried out in three conditions

the measurements for 90km/h (56 mph) and

120km/h (75 mph) are carried out at a constant speed.

for the urban measurement normal town traffic driving is simulated.

depending on style, road and traffic conditions, enviromental influences and vehicle condition, the figures obtained in actual pratice may differ from those given in the standards.

90 km/h ..........1/100km (mgp) .......5.8 (48.7)
120 km/h.........1/100km (mpg)........7.6 (37.1)
urban...............1/100km (mpg)........10.3 (27.4)

this was copied from the vw owners manual.

 :)

interesting..... Is it for the 8v? i think it's for the valver, it's a little bit too much for the 8v, mine gives about 32mpg, although the MFA reads 27...

32mpg is roughly what I get on me 8v so don't worry......book figures are never that accurate anyway.....too many assumptions!!! :P

it is for the 8v as the 16v is a 102kw engine....

dont forget the engine ages and wont act like new
and it wont do new mpg... unless things are replaced with newer parts

i also have the performance figures
for the 8v and 16v i will make a new post for theses.....

so what are the consumption standards for the 16v then? 24 mpg? like vr6? i don't believe this.

valver gets less mpg than 8v, that's a fact.

Also a run in engine will give a better MPG than a new engine, providing it is not too worn. Thats a fact too  :)

My valver gets about 30 to 33. If I have my foot down on it alot it will drop down to 27 to 28 though. Last trip I took in it it got 35. Not by the MFA though. I don't think they were accurate from the factory because it measures everytime the cars is running as opposed to milage driven.

120 km/h.........1/100km (mpg)........7.6 (37.1)
