FK headlights on Mk3
« on: 18 August 2006, 23:25 »
Hi, its my first post on this forum, so bare with me, my girlfriend has a mk3 golf 1.6CL (sorry its not a GTi but hope you can forgive) for her first car, and i recently fitted to it a set of said headlights, all the wiring is correct and there are no loose connections anywhere, yet when she clicks on her hi beam, the low beam lamp goes out, is this normal? on my car and my mates audi A4, both our low beams stay on with the hi, granted they're not FK kits, but i just wanted to make sure this is right on her golf or do i have to wire in an additional relay?

thanks

Dan

I think mine stay on when the high beams are on. But I've got GTI lights - they have separate bulbs for main and dipped.... Sounds like the FKs are designed to replace GTI lights. If you've got standard lights, adn H4 bulbs, yeah the dip fillaments go out when you flick the high beam on. Unless you get clever with a relay....

So do that mate....

I fitted some mk3 golf Inpro angel eyes to my Vento. In the box supplied with them was a metal bridging piece ( the 'C' shaped one in the pic of the fusebox ).
This enabled the dip beam to stay on when switching to main beam.

I did however make up a loom with 2 relays ( one for dip one for main ) fused directly from the battery,as I wasn't totally convinced that the lighting switches would cope. This would also to make sure the headlight bulbs were getting all the 12 volts as most headlamps tend to get less after the going through all the switches and wiring etc.
( ignore the relay on the left of the pic, thats for the air horns)

(BTW The lamps were chrome effect but I dismantled them and sprayed them black as I think they suit the car better  )

Does my arse look TOO BIG (to fit) in this (forum).... or was it something I said ?
