Polished Alloy rims-cleaning??!!

Hey, i recently picked up some Revolution Classics for my Mk1 and am in need of some advice, does anyone know of any good cleaning stuff to clean the polished lip, as i am having a nightmare!

Mothers or autosol work nice. I have a poilishing kit that I used when i did the frame on my last motorbike and it works a treat for that kind of stuff too. Cost about 20 quid from a catalog. A trick i was told by a polisher though is that after you are done polishing and have to wipe the polish off the wheel use a rag damped with petrol. Takes all the black up and gets the rouge out of the grain of the aluminum. Didn't believe it until I tried it. Goes without saying but it is a no smoking affair. lol.

comma wheel cleaner is good for removing stubborn brake dust, bought 8 quid from halfords etc

i know diesel fuel is a strong cleaner and not for alloy wheels but ive used it on mine and my rims have a glow in the dark

Cheers 8916vGTi got some of that autosol, well good stuff, and i can recomend that mothers wax, good stuff, also used with the clay before hand. leaves the paintwork very smooth and shiny.

That autosol is some of the best metal polish I have used. Comes off fairly easy too. If you want to maintain shine Try nevr-dull. Looks like cotton wool but it has some cleaner built into it. usually comes in a red and blue tin about 3 inchs in diameter. good for polished aluminum and the like. I use to use it on my motorbikes frame and swingarm. looked like chrome almost.

why dont you use brasso!!

Sounds sad, i know, but it works. Used it on my Stainless exhaust and it came up a real treat.

Used it on my wheels - works there aswell!

cool, cheers i'll give those a go, i've got some Autosol, brasso somewhere in house and got some Mothers wheel wax on order, as autosol abrasive so really needs a good wax over top. thanks again

Definatly use wheel wax after polishing as if you don't it will oxidize almost over night and haze over. Air reacts with aluminium and cause the oxidization.

i have polished le castaletts and i use meguiar's Gold Class and apply it with cotton wool and it works a treat..
