H reg 8v 3 door 52,000 miles, what value???
« on: 16 August 2006, 10:05 »
Hi all. I am the owner of a mk2 Hreg big bumper grey 3 door with 52,000 on the clock. The car was damaged in 1993 and has been in storage since. The rear quarter has now been repaired and will soon be back on the road with a view to be sold. How much should I be asking? It has BBS ZZ'S in hi power silver, hella smoked rear lights, otherwise standard. Cheers.

all depends on:-

the initial damage & the quality of the repair.

whether or not you declare the damage/repair to prospective buyers

alot of people will avoid repaired cars straight away whereas someone with a bit of knowledge knows what to look for in the repair.

the fact that its been off the road since 93 must been the rest of the car is in very good shape though.

you wont get top dollar for it but you could get sensible enough money for it

The rear quarter and passanger door have been repaired, no new rear quarter just filled, primed and painted by a top bodywork guy I know. It has full history and is in excellent condition throughout. Is about £2995 -£3500 right?

No mate that sounds way too much tbh. Not saying you won't get it, some people pay way over the odds for things, but does sound like far too much.

There's a mk2 with 53,000 for sale on pistonheads for £4500, and one with 78,000 sold for £3500 so there is hope I think.

I guess it all depends on a number of factors most notably the condition of the car, the colour of the car, the mileage, how many owners the car has had and how desirable the particular model is.

If she has been off the road since 93 then will she require some re-commisioning to get her on the road again? Brakes can seize, brake fluid can go bad, fuel can go bad.. engines can deteirorate if just left sitting.

To give you a rough idea of the market, a 1 owner 5 door 16Valver, in very good condition, went for £2400 on ebay last week. It had 93,000 miles and was a J plate, since 8Valvers usually go for less then a 16Valver I'd guess yours would sell around the same due to the lower mileage.

The buck however always ends at how much someone is prepared to pay.

The more you get the better for us as it means the values are going up.

detail the damage, how was it caused etc

in all honesty there is no point really asking on here unless you get pics of the car up itself!

id be surprised if you got anywhere near 3k for it. simply for the fact that i know its been damaged repaired

but someone else might not know/notice!
