Pops and Flames
« on: 15 August 2006, 21:20 »
Hi all

I have a 1.8 digi 8valve and i run it on super unleaded without fail, but after giving the car some serious stick if i drop down from 4th in to 2nd i get a loud pop and occasionaly flames now i dont have a flamer kit or whatever. Certainly gets peoples attention specially when i get flames. Only thing it has got is a k&n panel filter and a scorpion stainless steel system. Does anyone else get this? The car performes well and pulls in every gear, so im just wonderin why its doin this and will it damage the engine? Not that it maters as i have a new engine bein built hehe

Cheers
J

It's the timing i think. My old one used to do that, but this one doesn't. Which is a shame is some ways as it was great fun overtaking at night.....

mine used to do this but i have sorted the fueling and timing and sealed my exhaust properly and now it pops when decelerating but no flames. flames is cool but really you wanna be burning that petrol in the engine so u can make more power lol

Yer i know exactly what your sayin there, as much as flames are cool would prefer it if it was bein burnt in the engine. Makin my nice red bumper go a burnt colour, the bad point of flames with a DTM exhaust

Your timing is out, check my digifant tuning guide.  Problem with digis is the dizzy timing needs to be done @ 2k rpm with the blue sender disconnected
most mechanics do it at idle which is wrong.

mine used to do the same after I put the 2.0 bottom on, it was cool, but I prefered the extra performance once it was set properly
