possible mods on my Mk4 Golf turbo...
« on: 15 August 2006, 11:53 »
Just been having a look at the bits I'm going to try and get for my Golf turbo when I take delivery of it in a few weeks but just really want to know what you guys think as you've got more experience of all this than me lol

I'm thinking of going for a Mongoose full stainless exhaust, Mongoose are considered the best in the Ford turbo world so I assume (yes I know what assumption is the mother of ) they are good for VWs?

The only thing I am worried about is the noise though, are they much worse? I could put up with it if its slightly louder as my Escort at the mo is just stupidly loud lol

Next on my list is a chip but I haven't got a clue who from etc... any advice appreciated on this...

Then a filter, K&N or Piper X? Or something else?

And lastly something for the interior, a boost gauge. Looking around the inside there doesn't look like any obvious places it can live without cutting the dash about, if anyone has one and can post a pic up of it fitted so I can get an idea, and also which one cos I would like it to fit in with the dial glow if poss...

Any info on all of the above is much appreciated cos as you can see I haven't got a clue

AMD seem to be the ones to choose for chipping and Milltek for exhausts. I'm no mk4 1.8T expert tho'.

For the boost guage im pretty sure you can get pods which replace one of the air vents, which will save you cutting the dash. You could also get a dump valve if they float y boat.

I herd REVO are pretty good for Chipping... and I think a couple of months ago Stealth Racing in Southam were allowing people to try the Chip for a 6 hour test run

It works by running the chip through and setting it on a timer.
Who wanna get halfed up by a half wit
Who got a gang a problems
And dont give a half sh!t b!tch

i think stealth have moved over to oettinger remaps now and no longer offer revo.

Wazzzer, the search button is your friend, especially if you tick the box to just search the mk4 section  All of those topics have been covered in depth, so have a read of some background information then fire away with any specific questions

right boys. to start with modern cars aren't chipped anymore. that was the oldern times where you actually cracked open the ECU and installed/replaced the chip. In these times companies simply plug into your diagnosic port and change the map from there.

REVO, custom code, you take your pic.

Avoid air filters which are oiled as this will f**k up your MAF and they're at least £70 for another. I use a quikshift one as it's a huge mofo of a filter. Did the job grand when I actually ran a MAF and now I don't I don't really care :D
