8v gearbox problem

I have just replaced the gearbox on my 1998 gti 8v and it seams to be making one hell of a noise when reversing. It makes a kind of rattling noise but is fine when in all forward gears.
any ideas ?

hi mate
if the gearbox was a recon unit take it back ,but if the gearbox was second hand then you must have a problem with it and im afraid to say this noise is a common fault on the 8v gearboxes .
