Bleeding Brakes Again!
« on: 27 December 2003, 02:03 »
Hello Everyone!

Can anyone help me!? I keep getting air into my brake system! I have had the brakes bleed but after a few weeks the peddle is really spongey again - after a few days I start to notice a difference.

Just after they are bleed the peddle is really strong - the way it should be! The problem appears to be the back right wheel - this is where the biggest amount of air comes out of! A very little amount in the front left but I feel this is possibly just air passing back through the system!

Is it likely I have a problem with the rear caliper??

Thanks in advance.

Paul

I had a problem a while ago with my pedal going spongy and under braking being thrown all around the road.
In the end i replaced the rear calipers as they seemed to be not releasing enough.
problem solved.
check that the caliper is not starting to seize

Replace with  mk3 rear calipers (slip straight on if you have a 1990 onwards car)

is the master cylinder bypassing internally? Pump up the brakes until you have a nice firm pedal then hold it down like you are braking. if it very slowly starts to sink to the floor than it is more than likely the master cylinder.

At the start it all seemed to point to the Master Cylinder but i've replaced it and still get the problem! Think the caliber is starting to seize. Possibly best i just replace them. Unforunately I have a pre 90 car so can't even fit Mk3's which i believe are a lot better!

You can still use mk3 calipers you just need the rear brake lines from a post 90 as well as the parking brake cables.  ;D
