Cambelt Change
« on: 11 August 2006, 11:18 »
I am considering doing the cambelt change on my mk3 gti 8v AGG engine myself and was wondering where best to source the parts

I am looking at doing the cam belt, tensioner, pas belt and the alternator belt all at the same time.  Obviously these are crucial bits so I was wondering where best to get the parts from.

Would GSF parts be ok or should I aim to get these from the VW dealership if the price isnt ridiculous.

Also when refitting the new tensioner how do I know what the correct tension should be?

Thanks

Get the parts from VW , good price , cant remember but less than £80 all in .

You have the coeect tension when you can turn the belt only a quarter turn .

Thanks for that, ive just ordered the parts from VW, like you say the price isnt that different and at least now I should be sure to get good parts that are guaranteed to be right for my car

How vital is the correct tension then, im assuming the belt will slip if not tensioned correctly which doesnt sound good.

The tension is obviously important , but even the haynes manual tells you to check the tension as i have described .
