Suspension
« on: 10 August 2006, 22:43 »
After having my 16v for nearly a year, its nearly ready to MOT.
But the shocks are knackered and I was looking for a complete new suspension kit.

I can afford around £200ish
So far:
Larkspeed:
Gmax £199

Venom
Apex £183.30
Spax (The Telescopic Dampers are height adjustable using a threaded sleeve, a spring seat and a lock ring. C spanners are required.) Non sealed £233

Spax £233 Sealed strut

Ebay
Weitec £219

Any opinions of the above? Fancy the height adjustable spax...... or the weitec!

Weitec or Bilstein are both respected kits.  Bilstein though really....

Don't bother with G-Max, good kit but i would have chosen something else if i had known what i know now!

I fitted a g-max kit on a friend's mk3 16v, and it was surprisingly good

Mine are ok but my mates spax cheap ones seem to work better and look better build quality. Backs up what i hear about G-Max - for some they work really well, for others not!    No idea!  Don't listen to me anyway!!

Got Bilstein on my new GTI.

They're adjustable too apparently..need to drop it some more...

EDIT: how do you make sure both sides are the same height?

Right I've been searching through this fourm and it seems the Bilstein Streetline is a good budget kit.
I can only find a 35mm kit for the 16v, so hopefully it will be low enough.http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/products/product_info.mhtml?id=3033

One question though it states that it includes OE spec shocks, does that mean they arent any shorter than standard? Just I may buy lower springs in the future and dont wanna be bottoming out!

Thanks
