Arch clearence and G60 arches?
« on: 09 August 2006, 19:39 »
Right, many may know Ijust fitted ATS cups 15*7 ET 38 to my lowered valver.

It is going in for respray on friday and all next week.
I'm also getting the arches cut back to give more clearence the the Cups, as they are rubbing front and back.

What is the difference between cutting the arches and rolling them?

lso do G60 arches give more clearence? If so how, its just a plastic trim stuck on the outside int it? (i've been offerred as set should I need extra clearence!)

Also how do you stick the plastic arches back on after cutting/rolling the arches - hasn't the rivet holes been cut away???

Sorry for sounding thick - but haven't got a clue!

Cheers

yeah cutting means just that. they cut away what evers in the way. rolling just rolls the lip back. g60 arches give no more clearance as such, but if you've chopped away your arches to get wide wheels on then the g60's will cover the damage and extaend out further to cover a wider wheel that a normal gti arch wouldn't.

people stick the arches on with something like sikalfex. hardcore glue!
team grumpy....... its a way of life, not a forum post

Cheers Joe, is there any preference between cutting and rolling?

The guy who is doing the work has been in the business for years so I hope he know what hes doing!

Doesn't need much extra clearence anyway!

with the front arches you can do either, it doesn't matter.  On the rears its slightly more complicated as they are double skinned.  Its easier to roll the rears, but they can be cut as well you just have to make sure you weld a plate into the hole otherwise the rear arch & quater skin will rust away in no time at all!

You only really cut away the top part of the arch so the sides remain in tact. This way you can still rivet the sides on and glue the top.
