I guessed as much. ( After reading my question today, I realised how stupid it sounded!! ).
Although insurance companies will bump up your premium for the strangest things!... When I got my car, my insurance company asked me if there was anything on my car not fitted as standard to the model. I said I didn't think '99 1.8 GTIs came with aircon as standard, but mine had it (coz I wanted to be totally honest so they didn't screw me over if I ever needed to claim - I didn't think it would add anything to the premium). But... they added 10 quid on!!! I asked why aircon should make any difference, and they said that it makes it more "nickable". I argued that this was ridiculous as it is extremely hard to tell from outside (it's just a little button).
At first I thought it would be because it would cost them more to replace the car if stolen/ written off, but then they said that they would only replace it to standard spec anyway. INSANITY! For this reason I am very wary ( or some might say paranoid )
