resprays
« on: 24 December 2003, 09:39 »
Hi there and a Merry Christmas to all for tomorrow. I am thinking about getting my mk2 golf in for a respray. Can anyone give me a rough idea how much it should cost and can anyone recommend a place in the Milton Keynes or Cambridge area?

You can pay anything from ?450-?2500. I had one done a few years back which was ?500 and at first it wasn't bad (not great) but as soon as winter came the paint started to flake off. The next one i had done was ?1200 and it was spot on. The more you pay the better it'll be. Make sure that who ever does it takes the windows out and everthing is masked up properly.
I do my resprays myself now, works out soooo much cheaper..... good luck mate, merry Xmas to you too!

my respray is currently the other side of 2k. i've seen it and it is amazing, but then it should be. thats excluding all the time for taking most of the car apart and putting it back together again.

Spend as much as you can afford or you will only regret it each time you wash it.

My car has had a respray and what a sh!te job they did, the paint is chipping off around the windscreen, all rubbers etc. Gets right on my tits each time I look at it and there is jack I can do about it  :(.

I did not own the car by the way, it was the chimp before me who had it resprayed !!

Who did you take it to? What colour? Must be an amzing finish. I was quoted on a 45% discount by a mate fully resprayed all for just over ?700. :)
But the more money u put in a respray, the better the finish right?

My mk 2 had a respray (before I got it). Same thing, flaking around the windscreen and arches :(

Do your own prep work and then take it to be respray if you can. Get a good manual on body work and read up on it. It is tedious but not overly hard to do. Most poor resprays I see are due to poor prep. Paint flaking usually means that they didn't sand the area enough or they didn't degrease well. I have always done my own body work and resprays wish I had a place to do it here. Now when I have to have any paint work done I always do the prep myself and take it in to be sprayed. Just don't let primer sit in the rain long as it is dam near as porus as sponge. lol.
