VW Nav antenna
« on: 31 July 2006, 00:35 »
I've had Nav fitted... the antenna is behind the instrument cluster. It works perfectly. But I think the car would look better with the proper VW nav antenna (is it called a shark fin?) on the roof instead of the screw on arial. (which is just waiting to be nicked, along with the grille badge and metal dust caps)
My question is:  If I fitted one instead of the arial, would the radio signal still be picked up OK, or do nav cars get the radio signal from somewhere else? (my MK5 diesel never had an external arial)
Hope this makes sense. Dave A

The VW triplex antenna is the one you need - it does radio, tel and navi

Cheers The Doc,
I've ordered one, but I'm not convinced it's a Triplex one... the parts guy didn't seem convinced. It will be here on Wednesday. Do you know if there are any obvious visual differences between the Triplex and the normal Nav antena?
It cost just under £30, does sound right?
One more thing... how easy are they to fit?
Thanks!

£30 sound cheap!

There easy to fit!

If you open your tailgate and look at the rear of the headlining you will see a plastic trim that runs from side to side, CAREFULLY grab this trim and pull downwards - the whole trim will come down, then you can access the rear of the old antenna!

Cheers Doc... very good of ya!
Much appreciated.
£30 sounded a bit cheap to me too, that's why I think the dealer's ordered the wrong one.
We'll see tomorrow.
Thanks again.
