VW's Herbie style Golf

Apparently VW have developed a self-driving system that can drive a car round a circuit at 100mph +, taking the fastest line and getting identical laptimes each time, without the need for a driver.
They've fitted it to a Mk5 GTI, but apparently it could be fitted to any car
Has anyone seen this:

It's interesting but I think it's main use would be to cut in if the driver falls asleep at the wheel or if you put it into cruise control.

Interesting, i wonder how they have done that because every other company that has experimented with it has had special transponders in place around the track for the car to follow....

i saw that in a mag or newspaper but didnt read the full story for sum reason.
next we will see motorsport without the drivers, think of all the money F1 teams would save in wages

If in doubt, pay someone else to do it!

yeah I read this, it uses GPS to program the route into its computer then lots of clever stuff happens and voila, it beats you there! Sounded impressive but 5 million seems a little pricy, even if it is for a golf
