Optimax - Worth The Cost

Yo dudes. Hows it going?

Had my Mk. 4 Golf GTI 1.8 Turbo (150 Bhp) and i'm stoked with it. Coming from a Ford Fiesta 1.25 (75 Bhp) the Golf is in another league in every way imaginable.

A friend of mine said that Shell Optimax will work wonders with the turbo in my car but at 10 pence extra per litre can anyone backup his statement. Is it really worth it?

Hi, In a word yes,

For example, I used to have a Civic VTi and could run more ignition advance on optimax and even witout the ignition adjusted it flew.

My brother has a Integra type R and swears buy it, the car runs smoother and he reckon the cost is offset by you getting more to the gallon as its more efficient.

A freind has a RX7 turbo and on Optimax can run more boost before it pinks (pre-ignition)

And I now have a 1990 8V Golf. and on Optimax its smooth, pulls harder and I agree with my brother, it lasts longer so's worth the cost.

If i could I would run me on it!  :laugh:

I run it on my 8 valve mark 2 and used to run it on my valver, feels a bit sharper and runs smoother

I dont' like optimax. The tesco super works just as well IMO and costs like 2p more than regular. in the 20vT it ran a lot smoother.

i dont get as much mpg out of tesco 99 ron but it seems to shift a bit better on tesco 99 ron

I filled my 8v on Optimax the other day - £52 it cost  :shocked: Good job it gives me about 32-33mpg or I'd be free wheeling down hills and slipstreaming buses to make it last...  :laugh:

Yup, gives a bit better MPG and helps keep the fuel pipes and injectors clean apparently, which is a good thing

i must admit i tend to pit it in neutrel anyway on hills etc...look after the pennies as they say!!  :laugh:

I run my daily on Asda unleaded which is the cheapest around here. does 40mpg easily. 50mpg if I drive everywhere at 50mph.

It's a mk2 8v gti btw.

really don't rate the tesco stuff tbh.

Optimax, or ultimate make my valver run best.
