Please advise! Problem with my Golf GTI
« on: 26 July 2006, 22:47 »
Hi all,

Please advise...

I purchased a brand new 3 door Golf GTI (DSG) last May. I love my car to bits however I have recently had a few issues.

After 6 months the oil pump broke and stopped oil getting into the engine, resulting in the engine destroying itself - I had to get a brand new engine and turbo fitted (2.5 weeks in the VW garage).

Couple of other issues with the lights, broken boot lid etc but the latest issue is my gearbox started making a funny noise last week and the VW garage has informed me today I have to get a brand new box installed (another 2-3 weeks without my car).

The garage has been great and itÂ’s all under warranty but I am beginning to loose confidence in my car. I cannot stress enough how much I love owning it but what is your advise - should I complain to VW / should I look to get a replacement car, etc. All advice would be greatly appreciated!

If they are sorting everything free of charge, then maybe ask for a hire car.

Hi,  getting a hire car for the next 3 weeks it will take to replace the gearbox (they need to build it to order and ship it over which will take on its own atleast 2 weeks) Love the car but have just lost a bit on confid in it due to the hassel above.

You might be able to reject the goods, however if the dealer are making an effort then i would give them a chance.

It could be worse - all these problems could have waited til a few years down the line and then bitten you on the @ss.

At least VW are sorting it all out free - I had to pay for my gearbox

I would be looking at rejecting the car! on the grounds that the car is not of merchantable quality.. you need to get in contact with the citizens advice bureau ASAP, before you consent to any more work to be carried out, every now and then a friday night lemon turns up! sounds like you got it!  A better outcome would be if they offered you a deal on a new car at a discounted price.. may cost you a little extra £Â£s but at least the millstone would be gone
Hope you get it sorted
Tom
