So here is the full stroy of my car.....
« on: 15 July 2006, 11:51 »
Well, as you know i finally entered the world of GTi's about a month ago before the start of my placement year (you can see my project page for all the work i did...).

I payed 500 for her as the bodywork was ratty, but the enngine and chassis were solid as f**k.  So I payed for a new door and did the rest of the rust myself (Joe can vouch what it looked like).  Also fixed some bits on the engine so i didn't leak oil all over the place.

Last friday (7th july) I went to pick my car up from the car park that it had been in over night (put it there as the car park at my dads was under construction and it was a 'safe' place to park it  ).  Well, when i got to the car, i saw that the door handle was no where to be seen and the interior looked like someone had great fun throwing everything everywhere.

Ther basically had tried to steal her or a joy ride.  (see pics in project page)

Needless to say i was pissed, but walked round to the police station and reported it and within a few hours she had been dusted down for prints.  I also got onto my insurance comapny to get someone to pick it up and quote how much it would cost to have it repaired.

This was my mistake, but at the time i wa eager to get up to my new house in Crawley and getting it somewhere safe was my main priority.  She was picked up late in the evening and taken off to the 'approved repairer' (read that as expensive).

On tuesday i had an email from Elephant saying that it was uneconomical to repair

Wednesday they have taken the car to their salvage yard (for storage until they got all the documents and approval off of me, and i had got the money off the insurance company) but no one made it clear to me why it was there and i shouted at a few people down the phone.

They also valued the car at £460, i know i got here for £500, but that was because of the ratty bodywork.

So i am going to contest this.  I have looked on autotrader/future classics for mk2 of the same age(ish) and there are alot that are £600+ i even found a c-reg, totally standard (same solour aswell :laugh) with 116000 on the clock for £1000

I will keep you posted, but D705 FAD is going to car heaven even though she sisn't need to be put down.

Oh, and if i keep the car myself and decide to do all the repairs, i get f**k all money off the insurance, so it is easier to buy a new car

We could, but for me to buy her back i willget f**k all money for her and i am totally skint at the moment so it is easier for me to take the money.  And being in Crawley it makes fixing it at my dads difficult...

I am going to argue for more money though, look at this, its my car just a year older...
