Sister has a 97' 8v GTi which has a Toad Ai606 fitted and I think still has the standard imob.
The Ai606 appears to function fine.

The car starts, runs for a split second then dies. We have tried to start it hundreds of times, on one occasion it did start we drove it for a few miles, including crusing at 100mph and it seemed fine. Turned it off and it would not start again!!

Having searched this forum and a few others it seems the standard imob is broken?

I've looked at the transponder 'reader' ring around the ignition and it looks fine. We have two original keys and have tried them both. I've checked what wiring I can see under the dash and behind the glovebox, it looks ok.

Now considering she only paid 750 for the car we don't want to spend too much on diagnostics at a garage. What I would like to do is simply remove/disable the immobiliser. I'm pretty sure I had read that Revotechnik could do, but they tell me they can only do the newer MK4 cars.

Any ideas please guys?

Hi,

I think your problem will be solved by the use of VAGCOM.
You need to adapt the ECU to the Immobilizer.
Its pretty easy, I had to do it when I changed my ECU.
Instructions can be found here :-

Hope it helps.
