Fitting remote locking Kit...
« on: 12 July 2006, 11:53 »
I have a 5 door '95 VR6, but it's not got remote locking fitted which would be nice.

now from vagparts.co.uk I can get this kit which is a quick fit apparently (just plugs into Central locking controller)..  Only problem is it's going to be over a hundred quid.

A search of ebay reveals several universal kits, but these look much more complicated, and seem unecessary given that I already have perfectly capable central locking.

I also found this one: Link which is listed as being for a  "POLO LUPO BORA GOLF 4 5 GTI" which I take to mean a Mk4 and up.  Would this fit a Mk3?

One other thing:  I seem to have 'Total Closure' fitted in regard to the windows (if I hold the key in the lock position it'll wind all the windows up, and holding it in the unlock position winds them all down), but it does nothing with the sunroof.  Is this possibly a loose connection or did they make it that way for some of them (Mate has a '96 VR6 Highline with remote locking and his does sunroof too)?

Thanks...

the universal kits are quite easy to fit, all you do is hook up one of the motors to your drivers door lock pin rod and leave the rest of the system alone, job done. (basically it acts as if you're sat in the car pushing & pulling on the lock pin)

No idea on your other questions though, sorry!

I bought the VW remote kit from Vagparts. It's very good & reliable. The fob is an odd shape though !
Believe my £100 is nothing for the privilidge of the remote locking system ! And my drivers door lock is buggered anyway !
It states that you can make the lights flash too on the locking, but I couldn't get that to work. :undecided:
It's seem pointless messing with a new motor system when it's already there so I opted for this one.

Sunroof closes last after the windows. Keep your key turned, or finger on the button if it's a fob.

Tried that... Waited for yonks And still no dice - makes me think maybe something's not quite right... :undecided:

I've seriously considered the VAG kit - mostly because it looks sooo easy to fit  .... But saving >£60 isn't to be sneezed at.... :undecided:  Either way it'll probably have to wait a while - getting my old Escrote welded for the MOT (only so I can sell it...) is draining me this month...

What's up with the your lock?  If it's the old "Key turns and does nothing" then its fairly easy to fix.  I did mine shortly after buying it.  A little fiddly but the parts are only 15 quid from VW.

there are cheaper universal kits out there. bought mine for £30 which was for a 4dr car so I have 2 spare motors. piss easy to fit. works a treat.
