Are you sure about that?
Have you ever driven any Audi quattros before?
i have to admit i haven't driven an impreza , however the audi sticks to the road like its on railway tracks.
You can go round a roundabout with your foot to floor, no loss of grip at all.
I have driven a 90 quattro and an A4 quattro, the handling is absolutely AMAZING, out of this world.

I agree in the early eighties not much could beat the Audi Quattro E2 (500bhp)

However, not having driven any early or late Quattro, or Impreza, or Mitsi Evo,

I couldn't tell you which is quickest, etc.

But (don't believe everything you read) many many many people would say that its hard to beat a Evo 6 straight from the forecourt...

I do fancy an Audi rs4 or rs6
they are a bit costly though!
