1.8T - Which engine oil???
« on: 10 July 2006, 12:30 »
Hi

I haven't had my 2000 1.8 T long, and the oil needs topping up... I'm just unsure what grade oil is required!  The handbook only has a VW code and on the back of some of the castrol porducts it says 10w-40 yet the Castrol website says 5w-30....?

Can someone clear this up for me.... many thanks

Jonny

Ok,  That's Turbo petrol is it ? newer 2001/2/3 AUM & AUQ  engines like 0w-30w or 0w - 40w fully synthetic. For diesel never go lower that 5w - XXw

Call up the last servicing agent / Garage / Dealer and ask them what they put in when the oil change was done last time.  Then top up with that or the nearest equivalent.

When your next oil change is due. You may then be in a position to decide. OK 2000 build, 6 years now - hmmn depends on mileage and engine condition - probably 5w- 40w castrol fully synthetic, unless you have a very worn engine.

put synta silver in...
4.5 litres with filter ;)

doesn't matter what engine code it is, they're all the same just some are DBW and some are cable. That doesn't effect the oil.

What is it with the recent AUM/AUQ banter anyway. Last month it was BAM engines!
