Tesco 99 octane fuel?
« on: 09 July 2006, 14:23 »
The Gti and R32 are recommended to run on 98 octane fuel.  My local petrol stations are Esso which do 97 octane and Tesco which do 99 octane.  I use to use Esso with my Gti but then changed to Tesco for it's higher Octane and to be honest didn't notice any difference with the car.  I got a tank of petrol free with my new R32 and am about to fill it up with juice for the first time and am wondering what you all use?  You hear different rumours about supermarket petrol, some say it doesn't have detergents added etc or that all petrol comes from the same refineries.  I have no idea which is to be believed and even my old man who works in the oil industry isn't sure! Cheers Rog. ( By the by I've like the Doc had both a Gti and now a R32 and I prefer my R32 even though it's very early days.  I've got DSG on the R32 which I didn't have before and I Have to say it's fantastic especially on a M25 traffic jam yesterday! and on the open road unbelievably quick at changing gear.

Wait until Shell run out of Optimax and then we'll get 100oktane :) the Tescos fuel is the highest RON available and the ECU should adjust to anything down to 95 in an emergency. :)

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

My local Shell in Sydney sells 'Shell Optimax Extreme' with with a 100 octane rating. Apparently it has 5% ethanol which has to be a good thing. Ethanol is a renewable energy so less guilt in buying it.

I'm still running bog standard 98 at the moment but could run it down to the fuel light (60km to go according to computer) and fill up with 100. The fuel bill will gouge my credit card but I'm willing to do it for the 'greater good' if anyone's interested..

Saw a R32 in Austria, v nice although I like the GTI's grill better. They 'still' haven't arrived in Australia, I think there will be a limited number imported. How many went to the UK?

Doc: I would love to post a pickie of my new R32 but I must be a bit of a spaz as I can't appear to copy  the relevant photos from 'my pictures' on the PC to the web site. You've posted plenty of photos, how do you do it?  Thanks computer illiterate Rog. :undecided:

Thanks Ryso. Happy motoring, bar the speed cameras - sorry I mean safety cameras, well making money for the government has nothing to do with them?, speed bumps that you get your spoliers on, pot holes that shag your alloys etc rant, rave..............................................................!
