petrol smell in car

 :sad: wondered if anyone can help just bought a mk3 golf gti 16v and if i leave the car for a while and then go out in it, theres a strong smell of petrol for just few miniutes. then its gone ive checked underneath the car in the engine bay , and cant see any petrol leaking and done all this whilst it was even running any ideas please

pretty hard to do it the smell is just in the car ive checked under the back seats and where the fuel filter is but theres no signs of a leak

I had this probelm with my mk3 8v.  When idling it stank of petrol real bad..couldn't run the heater when sat at a junction.  Found out the breather hoses were split. Might be worth checking these as I've changed mine and it doesn't smell any more.

Yep, tenner says its the breather pipe - had this meself too
