coolant probs
« on: 18 December 2003, 16:16 »
Since I've had my '91 16v, it ALWAYS has a constant a coolant leak.  1st where the overflow valve is (the recalled bit), then fixed it.  Next was the expansion tank bottle (very messy), and now it is the radiator bottom hose.  I only replace parts from VAG dealers.  I have ordered a new bottom hose and 2 bottles of G12 coolant, ready for december's snow!

The cooling fan on the radiator has three electrical connectors, and I dont know which two to plug into.  The fan in the haynes manual has only two!  Also, does anyone know how to test the fan without waiting for the oil temp to go over 108?

Just one more thing, my uncle lent me a timing strobe light gun, but because DOHC, the spark leads go deep down thus no way to get a wire down the shaft to reach the plugs.  How the hell can I do this, it is definately pinking!

Regards

to test the fan one is a neutral and there are two more, one of them rotates the motor anti-clockwise and the other one rotates the motor clockwise.

I done this a few months ago so im not sure.

Timing strobe..........I usually connect mine to No.1 on the distributer cap instead of the spark-plug.

Hmmm, I thought the extra connector was to do with run-on after the ignition is switched off...........
