Matt - the E30 was LHD, they all were which is a pain on UK A roads. It was great on track, but the FRP just had the awesome chuckability. The problem with old cars (as per my 944, gti mk2 and e30 M3) is that unless you replace every suspension and steering component, they will really struggle to recapture their former glory. Then even if you do that, the driving experience is tainted by slack driveline etc and the nigglesome worry that if you cane it, you might kill it!!!

And maybe yourself!!!     The E30 M3 in LHD would make a great car to hold in a collection though   For some insane reason I looked at a proper old school original 3.0L CSL in original orange last year, the thing was stunning and soooo cool but no way would it have made a daily runner in the middle of winter

I ultimately went for the FRP over the INtegra (back in 2000) because I got a whopping discount which helped overcome its ridiculous list price. Based on test drives, the powerplants were incomparable, the Integra being stonking, the Puma being loud, crackly but limp. Had a slight preference for the Puma drive and feel --- was a hard choice, but no regrets. In fact I looked for a used Frp recently, very cheap now, but a whole pile of expensive problems are being unearthed - like £400 brake discs, regular calliper rebuilds, corroded exhaust / manifolds, rust etc

2000 was when I bought the Integra, I never even thought about Honda until the misses quizzed me about the TEG and I had no answers   The TEG made every trip a track blast, not good for the licence though

Both were raw and made lousy motorway cars - dunno about you, but the noise and ride comfort was beyond a joke!!!

Nightmare!  I used to have to stop for fuel on the way to Cornwall as the TEG tank was tiny   Oh and the back pain from the trip would take the best part of a week to fix itself!  But that's not these motors were about, I'd loved to have met a FRP on the same road as the TEG, that woud have made for a great fun drive

Onwards and upwards as they say, but still miss that car. lots of fond memories and just loved the massive lift off oversteer and the way it could be steered on the thottle. Can't help but think a 911 RS is the ultimate grown up FRP / Integra.

Fantastic memories and one I remember is when the CTR was launched and all the boys thought they were the mutts in the 200bhp hatch only to get wasted on numerous occasions by the might TEG, you'd be so far away on the twisties that they'd never catch you on the straights.  That always went down well as most of my buddys had the CTR
The Box S feels like a grown up TEG, also the GTi.  Both being more solid and much much better for day to day life.  I really want a Noble, but convincing the misses that the crap badges can be changed still doesn't convince her

Agree about standard Puma having terrific balance and being a super drive. In fact, when I had just the mk4 and the A4, I thought a Ka was an awesome drive down B roads - excellent chassis composure...

I know what you mean about the Ka, such a laugh and much like a mini one with just the right amount of grip to power ratio to be cheap and fun

So you're Mini Oxford? or engine plant? I am ex PAG, hence the heavily discounted FRP. Not tempted by a Cooper S JC works? that looks like a hoot

Yep sure am, but when you see them being built all day you don't want to go driving one home   it's nice to see something different in the carpark opposed to Beemers and Minis   But the GP1 Mini looks the dogs and goes like stink.  maybe the next gen Mini JCS works will float my boat  :undecided:  But i think I'd rather have two Gti Golf

Yeah i saw the 5th gear - the M3 fared particularly badly. But lets face it, it was never that fast to start with. Its well balanced etc. but as an out and out track car is a bit overhyped IMO - as is the 968 CS if its anything like a 944S2, which it is... A Clio 182 will monster most things - and a well driven one nearly always does at trackdays.

What i love about the e30 M3 is the durability (few big bills bar the timing chain) and the looks. I LOVE the boxy wings of the 80's cars - as per Integrale, 944 etc (not G60) rallye though). They just look 'right' in henna red and the 16" BBS wheels.

Matt. If i had the space (and more free £Â£Ã‚£)  I'd be looking for
- an Sport Evo E30, in red - well any late spec would do
- a mint FRP
- a mint 205 1.9
- mint mk2 gti / g60

They are the cars I grew up lusting after (bar the FRP) - owned most of them, but sadly don't have the 5 berth garage

Matt - The new BMW 335d and 335i look like awesome bits of kit.
How long do you need to hold on to your cars for (the mini and BMW?). When i was at Ford/PAG it was 9 months, but the discount was never big enough to avoid scary depreciation, except for the Puma 1.7 i had.

Always had a fond eye for the new Mini, especially the Cooper s. There seems to be absolutely loads for sale right now, do you think supply has finally caught up with demand on the used market?
Any ideas on timing / spec of new S?

Sadly the new Clio sport has been eating too many cakes. It weighs some ridiculous amount, about 200kg heavier. According to a roadtest, the figures are a bit misleading, with 2nd lenthened to just reach 62 mph to cut down the acceleration figures (old car needed a change to 3rd apparently)

Still a quick motor I reckon, but maybe not quite as wild as the older Clios

The Clio 172 Cup is still one of my favourite steers, I've only demo'd the little clio but it was great fun and cheap!!  But I would have been bored after a few months of sideways action   Oh and need anew back!

The new clio is 100kg heavier, once there are demos around I'll be giving it a go and I'd love Renault to build another V6   The latest clio is a few ponies down on BHP/Ton which is a shame, it seems to be an improvement but lost some of the keeness that made the 182 so much fun, but all the test have been on euro roads and we need to see a british test before forming any real opinion....

Mart, I think the CTR is a missed oportunity.  The figures just look very samo samo, they should have tried harder..... I owned the current CTR and got shot of it after 4 bored months...   :lipsrsealed:

Charri, the 335d is a monster!! One of the lads has a 535d and blimey does it shift, not my bag but it's decent enough...  The Z4M Coupe was a thought, but the sporty Beemers ride is soooooooooo stiff, they need some finesse and better control

If I BUY a motor through work I get nearly 20% and have to keep it for a year.  I nearly ordered a M5, thinking that I'd only lose at most 10% over one year.  But in the end I bottled it
The next Mini is on the cards, in S form and in one of the new colours.  there's a new blue that looks spot on, but there will be NO chillie Red   As to stats and figure, can't really tell ya much as I don't know   but the new S is much quicker around the test track, MUCH.....  As soon as i can demo the new one I'll get some info up.........  It's all still very cagey though.....

But my own collection would have to read....
 -  BMW 3.0L CSL Batmobile in Orange
 -  Clio Williams1
 -  1973 porsche 911
 -  Lotus Cortina

Done yesterday whilst my supaguard was being re-applied on the Gti.

Lovely motor and clocked up an effortless 140 miles.....
