Oh I forgot to ask! Why do you think it's a girls car???????????

Because the owners get far too defensive about it when you mention it :grin:

The C4S has to many seats  :wink: A GT3 RS would be a nice two seater though :grin:

I love the Box, it's just like my old Integra Type R in it's control and handling finesse.......  You boys should get out and drive a 986 Box S and see what you think....  Only the S though as the 2.7 just doesn't have the legs....  Just been reading about the August year change on the Boxsters, 245 bhp 2.7 and 295 bhp 3.4 in the S version!  Now that will be tidy and only 25 bhp off a 3 year old C4S  :kiss:

Me too Matt...

The Box had so much of the chuckability of the cars I have most enjoyed in the past (205 1.9, E30 M3, racing Puma and MR2 roadster - yes Mr2... - never had an Integra, but came close once) and the composure and balance of something much more expensive....

Mine is out of date already... How can Porsche justify charging more for the Cayman when the engines are the same??

PS - 987 service schedules are 2 years / 20k and much lower fixed price than the 986. Of course your OPC will still insist your brakes need replacing every time you go within 1 miles of the dealership  :angry:

I like your list of motors charri, what order would you put them in in terms of handling finesse, not owning and everyday usage?  Best to worse........

Funny you should mention the brakes, but you forgot to mention the clutch and RMS  :angry: :angry: :angry:

The changes Porsche are making to the Boxster from next month take the p155!  It's a complete p155 take to all the owners that ordered the latest newest Boxster last year   :sad:    But I can't wait to drive the 295bhp 3.4 S.... :smiley:

My own list of owned motors in terms of handling and nothing else would be.....

1 = Integra Type R DC2
2 = Boxster S
3 = Golf Gti
4 = 306 GTi-6
5 = Pug 309 SRi
6 = BMW 320D
7 = S2000
8 = Civic type R
9 = Clio 1.4RT
10 = Octavia VRS
11 = A3 3.2 Q
12 = Jag X-Type 3.0L Sport
13 = Laguna
14 = Mk4 2.0 8v Gti Golf

Even porsche have to move on sometimes.

All manufacturers have to update there engines and specs matey, I dont think Porsche are doing it to p1ss people off they just realised that the 3.2s can have more power so gave it what it deserved...

I always wanted to drive an Integra but it never happed  :sad:

Why didn't you drive an Integra????  Were you to busy at the VW garage?

You can drift the back end out on those babies so easy, and with so much control.  They really are all that in the twisties, not to bad on the straights but straights are rather dull IMHO.

I only got rid of mine because at 6'4" and 16 stone it was killing my back on anything other than a short trip....  15-20 mpg was the norm for me and the TEG, but then it was always sideways  :wink:

Matt,

My favourite car for sheer entertainment (on track and road) was the Ford Racing Puma. Obviously far from the quickest in a straight line, but shed loads of grip, composure, awesome brakes and 'thottle steerability' - which I love. Ultimately a car than inspires that much confidence will end in tears - or a hedge in my case  :cry:

A good yardstick of how much you enjoy a car is the tyre wear. My FRP P7000's lasted just 5k on the front...

List is something like this Matt, excluding the crappy Nova SRs and MG Metros I had as a teen. Like you, I have had a ridiculous amount of cars in my 14 years driving (28 now). I get bored too easily, then often regret changing ----- am thinking of your Toureg desires...    :wink: don't do it!!!

1) Racing Puma
2) Boxster
3) MR2 roadster
4) M3 E30
5) Pug 205 1.9
6) Pug 309 1.9 (also had an XSi 1.6 3 dr version of your Sri - let me guess, you bought coz of gp 8 ins too?  :smiley:)
7) Puma 1.7
8) 944 S2
9) Various E36 BMWs, M3, M3 evo, 328i
10) Regular 99 Ford Focus Zetec
11) Golf mk4 1.8t
12) Audi a4 TDI
13) Several poo VW's. Mk3 GTi, Mk2 GTi (was a baddy) Bora tdi, mk3 tdi

Based solely on entertainment and enjoyment value. I imagine a MK4 gti (dull as it is) is dynamically more accomplished, more predictable etc than a 205, but what fun.,.,.

LOL, I thought the FRP would be up there....  I imagine you considered the ITR at the same time as the FRP, I did but went the Honda way  :wink:

You've some nice cars in there, I'm surprised the E30 M3 isn't further up though?  Was it LHD?

Puma's FRP and Standard are so under rated in terms of finesse and control, I went out in an FRP with a guy that has a wealth of rallying experiance and just couldn't believe the directions it was getting thrown in!!!  Great entertainment and many a brown pant moment  :shocked:.

I remember a great EVO test back in it's day, where the TEG and FRP were pretty close but the TEG pipped it with just that little bit of extra special rawness.  Great article which then had the ITR taking on the might of the P1, awesome.......  Of course the P1 won and went to fight the 550 Marranello....  Quality........ :cool: :cool: :cool:

You're propably right about the Toureg, but it's got to be checked over........  Considering I can get 20% discount on all BMW and Mini products it's strange that I don't want one  :lipsrsealed:

Matty

Matt - the E30 was LHD, they all were which is a pain on UK A roads. It was great on track, but the FRP just had the awesome chuckability. The problem with old cars (as per my 944, gti mk2 and e30 M3) is that unless you replace every suspension and steering component, they will really struggle to recapture their former glory. Then even if you do that, the driving experience is tainted by slack driveline etc and the nigglesome worry that if you cane it, you might kill it!!!

I ultimately went for the FRP over the INtegra (back in 2000) because I got a whopping discount which helped overcome its ridiculous list price. Based on test drives, the powerplants were incomparable, the Integra being stonking, the Puma being loud, crackly but limp. Had a slight preference for the Puma drive and feel --- was a hard choice, but no regrets. In fact I looked for a used Frp recently, very cheap now, but a whole pile of expensive problems are being unearthed - like £400 brake discs, regular calliper rebuilds, corroded exhaust / manifolds, rust etc

Both were raw and made lousy motorway cars - dunno about you, but the noise and ride comfort was beyond a joke!!!

Onwards and upwards as they say, but still miss that car. lots of fond memories and just loved the massive lift off oversteer and the way it could be steered on the thottle. Can't help but think a 911 RS is the ultimate grown up FRP / Integra.

Agree about standard Puma having terrific balance and being a super drive. In fact, when I had just the mk4 and the A4, I thought a Ka was an awesome drive down B roads - excellent chassis composure...

So you're Mini Oxford? or engine plant? I am ex PAG, hence the heavily discounted FRP. Not tempted by a Cooper S JC works? that looks like a hoot
