Porsche Boxster S or VW Toureg?
« on: 05 July 2006, 06:30 »
Strange question?  You may think so, but it's what I'm thinking at the mo.........

I've been having a sniff around the dealers and found a pretty different and imho cool Boxster S, in yellow with 19" sports wheels also in yellow.  Ok, so not to everyones taste but what the hell it's good to be different and original compared to the normal silver or grey

The thing is I keep looking at the Touregs and love the looks and quality.  so as the Golf going in next week I've got the Toureg Demo for the day

My own thoughts are that the Toureg is going to be chilled and feel like a solid piece of granite, I think I'll want one but the Box S is simply an awesome motor.  Both will do about the same MPG allbeit the Toureg would be a diesel, so running costs should be around the same.

what's your thoughts?

depends what you'll be using it for.  is it an everyday machine or a weekend toy??

though saying that the Boxster, like any other Porsche, is designed to be used everyday....

do a Doc and buy a Phaeton instead!!

The phaeton was a thought, but unlike Doc I'm not quite in my 40s

It's an everyday motor now the misses is back driving, I'm normally on the roads at 5 in the morning which is where the Box feels so good   Not so in the middle of winter on fresh powder though

So you have a choice, Toureg or Box S?  which and why?

The 3.0 Diesel would be my choice, although if I could find a second 5.0L diesel I'd have to look

Such a shame about RR, so many people who i known that have owned them slated the build!!!  50K of pap

Roll on next tuesday, I think a day trip down to london in the Toureg could be fun   No pressure on the motor but I think it's going to be good, oh and much better for my lanky frame

It's like this for me at the mo, we've some money aside for work to be done on the house BUT if the chippy doesn't give us a quote soon I'm going shopping   Well once I've convinced the misses that is

What about the Phaeton boss, is an entertainer when you want it to be?  Or a luxury cruiser?

Box S any day

Sounds like you are just driving the car for yourself, and unless you regularly need to carry 3 or 4 passengers, + shedloads of gear in the boot, while maybe towing a horse trailer, and negotiating some tricky mountain passes, I cannot see any sensible reason to buy such an obscenely big brute as the Toerag - huge thing to park and manouvre, as aerodynamic as a barn, and all for the imperious feeling of sitting up a bit higher than other drivers?  No way.

If fresh powder is a regular occurence where you live (in the UK????), then maybe you need an R32 or Impreza or other 4WD bandit.

LOL, nice work Alex....  Spoken like a true RWD fella   One of my S2K says exactly the same

Having never owned a 4x4 (other than the Q A3) I still fancy getting it out of my system....  And it'll be easier taking the misses shopping   And might even slow me down a bit.......

Scoob, not whilst they look so flipping ugly!  I loved the P1 which i nearly bought last year, but thoughts of using all that power everyday all day scared me silly   The current Sti is great but sooooo ugly!

The R32 was an option, but that would be for the misses and then I'd have the GTi and add some toys...  The R32 just didn't float my boat, lovely sound and 24/7 useage is always good but it didn't get under my skin like the GTi did on it's first drive.  Maybe another drive would, or maybe the R36 would....  A white Gti would be sweet, but having matching cars would be so pretty lame

Of course I may be doing nothing, but it's good to get out and around the showrooms just incase the misses folds on the house plans

Oh Doc, just remember fella I'm only 33

what you need is either an Audi S4 (or if you got the cash get the RS4)

or even an RS6; plenty of luggage space for the missus and her shopping and if you get it de-limited enough to do 200mph

Sorted.
