« on: 04 July 2006, 16:54 »
i currently have a mk3 gti 8v and im wanting to put a 16v engine in it running twin 45's but what i want to know is does anyone know of where i can get an inlet manifold suited for carbs either weber or dellorto fitment.

and with regard to the engine what car is best to source the 2.0 16v

passat, jetta, golf

do they do a mk3 jetta 16v, a mate says there is such a thing but ive never seen one

cheers in advance.

Wouldnt it be better to start witha  mk3 16v?

Why is your name cupra 20v if u have a gti 8v?

Or u got 2 cars?

I would start with a 16v too. else you'll just get loads of problems with swapping it over.

name is cupra 20vt as i had a ibiza cupra beofre the golf, had to sell it to buy a house but here she is

i know its best to start with a 16v but ive done to much and spent too much on the 8v to just sell it and start gain i will loose too much money.

im having loads of ides for engine changes, first was the 1.820vt with leon 6 speed box but the price for the engines was way too much, then then i was going to put a vauhall 2.0 litre 16v turbo lump in to the golf as i have the engine sitting in the garage but dont really want that type of mix vw with vauxhall. then a mat suggested a valver with twin 45s and a set of cams, but overnight i have been thinking of just putting a vr6 in there but a special vr6

i dont mind the hassle but i know the giolf i have is a good one and its pretty much solid with no rust so buying a new vr6 or a 16v i would run the risk off getting a mutt. surley if i have a full vr6 golf the swapping over of the engine loom etc wouldnt be too hard, just straight forward.?

putting a VR6 into a mk3 isn't hard. I've done one and it took me roughly a week (we had a couple of little issues and I wasn't on it all day every day)

my mate has a redtop with twin 45 dellortos in a mk3 escort van, quick is an understatement.

my only fear of putting the redtop turbo in, is that so many people have had major trouble with them, another mate had one in an astra and a valve bent and snapped and some how went through the block and messed up all the pistons and turbo got knackered,it cost him a few sheckles to fix.

i want reliability with speed/torque/nippyness. A vr6 would be heavy on juice and a redtop turbo a bit too unrelaible, i was thinking of using a n/a redtop but i dont know how quick this would be compared to a mk3 16v as the cars are quite heavy so would there be similarities in performance. if i was to use a normal redtop it would be running twin 45's, be port n polished, lightenned and balanced flywheel, decatted 4 branch manifold so it would be round the 180bhp

but if i was to use a vr6 then htis would be ported and polished, decatted, superchipped, and possibly cammed but then it would drink fuel like crazzzy    where do i go guys what would other go for?

i dont mind a challenge so modding and welding etc is not a problem.

If your swappin the engines why not fit somethin the mk3 didnt have like a g60, 20v turbo or r32.

Other wise just keep the bits you can off yours and sell it buy a vr6 and mod that so much cheaper in the long run.

20vt too expensive same goes for the r32 engine but the r32 would be my dream engine to put in it.

i think a g60 would be underpowered in such a heavy car although i have allways wanted one of these in a mk2.

I cant be bothered in keeping all the bit on mine and putting them on another car, some of the standard bits off mine have been sold or gone in the bin so im buggered that way.  anyhows i like the colour and condition of my current golf and i just want a project but the end result i want to be able to use more or less everyday so i dont want anything stupid which would be a weekend toy and in the week i would be repairing it.
