Anti-roll bar bushes
« on: 17 December 2003, 13:21 »
Hi people..

I'm wanting to upgrade/replace my anti-roll bar, but not having the cash.

So would a replacement set of new bushes bring good results?

Does enyone know how much a standard set would set me back?
I notice Powerflex do a set for ?30ish - worth the extra cash?

Also how difficult is this job?  :)

I dont think these are that difficult to do but you are best to have the front jacked up. Otherwise the tension will make it very difficult to get back in pos once you undo the brackets securing the bar.

I not 100% on this but it sticks in my mind for some reason :)

They are easy to replace, but get someone to give you hand to get the anti-roll bar back to its originally fitted position.

do u want a tip.....

Eibach uprated front bars are 23mm

so are late seat ibiza or cupras! ;)

u'll need to get 23mm powerflex bushes from C&R, its the only company that can supply them

also an uprated front bar on it own will promote understeer, hence why u need to uprate the rear also

front = understeer
rear = oversteer

u want a balance! my rear eibach bar is 25mm

Gambit, how easy is it to fit a rear anti roll bar? as they don't come on the car as standard.

pish easy, its just a bolt on job

it bolts into the rear shock bolts & then its held against the beam by two brackets

i'll see if i can find a pick for it

Cool geezer. You seem to have a bit of knowledge there, so you ever do any tinkering yourself?

i tinker with it, ie serviceable stuff but leave the heavy work like the PAS rack job to my mechanic

i was able to do the rear bar myself but the subframe needed to be dropped for the front

i managed to find an ex-VAG service manager that now has his own garage and he does all the heavy work on it
