I visited a dealer a week ago to talk about ordering a Golf GTI. The dealership had a display GTI, Polo GTI and three GT TDI (2 of which had been cosmetically modified. The guy I spoke to owned the new Polo GTI and was adamant that, after having it chipped to 250bhp, it would outperform a Golf GTI. Got the impression he wanted me to buy the Polo (which does look suprisingly similar to the Golf in size etc.) but I quickly dragged him back to the Golf.

Yes, but it will not be group 13 if you have it remaped  Expect to get charged a fair bit more on your insurance if you ramp it up to 200bhp. Of course, you could choose not to tell your insurance company - but then people who do that are being very daft.  Imagine if they find it's remapped and you have a claim in - they just laugh at you and quite rightly refuse to pay up.

Thing is though and my understanding is this,   its almost impossible to proove detect that the ECU has a different map thats in use than the standard and therefore the practice is not to inform - not saying this is what i've done just whats been suggested in the past.

I doubt very much that it would get to 250bhp with just a remap,  i'm sure some exhaust & intake work will need to be done to that but i think the remap to 200 would be sufficient given the power to weight ratio anyway.

Took the new polo GTI for a spin round the Milbrook testing ground.....did'nt feel as quick as my GTI but I suppose they might loosen up after some miles. Also took a new 3 door Golf GTI round aswell. That was in a completely different league.

Best car of the day though was a Vauxhall  , but it was a VXR monaro 6.0 V8......absolutely stonking
